OUR STORY

Sopra Mura is the most recent creation by Costas Palikyras who has devoted his time and experience in developing state of the art accommodation and the delivery of luxury travel services on the island of Corfu, where he is from.

Costas's Story

Born in Germany but returned to Corfu when he was only 2 years old, Costas grew up in a family which offered Greek hospitality called “Philoxenia”, to mainly English travellers at the time. As a young man, he would spend summers in Corfu gaining valuable hands-on experience while studying in England during the winter months.

Sopra Mura combines Costas’ love for the sea and the island of Corfu. Due to its significant position and historical value this project offered Costas a creative challenge to which he could apply his skill and passion for delivering excellence in tourism and travel.

Long before the creation of AirBnB and other platforms Costas had the vision of transforming this ground floor apartment, which has been in the Palikyras family for generations, into luxury town house accommodation.

Step by Step

Having finished his duties as a naval officer, Costas founded NEXT Holiday travel office and agency which deals with general tourism ground handling, the representation of foreign travel companies in Corfu and the development of travel services and experiences through an online platform in 2012.

The second big step in his career was to take over the general management of his family’s holiday accommodation with the complete refurbishment and upgrade of services and facilities and to build a luxury villa rental.

With vision and perseverance, Sopra Mura was created in 2021 and promises to be Costa’s finest creation yet.

About the Name

Sopra Mura is a distinct name, in homage to the small church nestled within the Venetian “Mouragia” walls referred to historically as Sotto Mura, the one beneath the walls. Sopra Mura, this renovated historical town house, however, sits above or Sopra the walls, more or less directly above the historical church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
